Summer Equestrian Program - August 24-28, 2026

Sky Riding LI is excited to offer a one-week (5 day) summer enrichment equestrian program. This program offers an intimate group setting with a limited number of participants and lots of individual attention.  It is open to riders with or without disabilities. Individuals do not need prior riding experience to participate.

$850* for the session, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm August 24-28, 2026

  • Due to limited availability, ten participants, a $50 non-refundable reservation fee is to be included with your reservation, to be applied to the total session fee. Reserve your spot and mail your $50 check to Sky Riding LI, 319 Hewlett Ave, Merrick, NY 11566. Feel free to contact me to confirm there is still availability before you submit forms and payment.

  • All new participants to Sky Riding LI programming will need to be assessed for riding ability, and to determine how much support they will need. The $100 evaluation fee will include 20 minutes with a horse/riding and ground conversation. The 30-minute  evaluation will be set up upon receipt of your registration fee. Sky Riding LI reserves the right to decline any participant. 

  • All registration forms and full payment must be received by May 30, 2026. Your spot is not secure until your payment in full is received.

  • No refunds will be issued after July 8, 2026.

  • All new participant’s Medical forms must be stamped by the participant's physician for approval and submitted along with payment in full (cash or check). Forms can be emailed to nancy.tejo@skyridingli.com. Current Sky Riding LI students do not need to complete this form.

Eligibility

  • Participants must be able to independently eat, use restroom facilities, follow directions and stay safe in a group environment. An aide or caregiver is welcome to assist for the day if needed. 

  • Weight limit for all riders is 160. This ensures the health of our horses. Weight will be assessed during the evaluation. Sky Riding LI reserves the right to decline any rider. 

  • Participants will work in groups of 5 according to ability, geared toward ages 8-18.

  • All lessons are instructed by a PATH Intl. Certified Riding Instructor. CPR/First Aid certified and a former NYS EMT.

  • Trail rides, for those that are approved to ride, will be led by an experienced trail guide.

  • A licensed clinical social worker will be present to help navigate any emotions/behaviors that might come up during social/emotional learning activities  or any other time.

  • We plan to offer a 1:1 counselor ratio so they will become comfortable meeting with the same person each day and getting the attention they need.

Activities: (rain or shine) Each activity provides opportunities for students to grow physically, socially, cognitively and build essential horsemanship and life skills! 

  • A 45-minute, daily, group riding lesson

  • A 45-minute, daily, social/emotional learning session using our horses as teachers.

  • Special activities include music time and making horse treats. 

  • Trail ride: We end the week with a relaxing trail ride (for approved riders) through Connetquot State Park. 

  • Miniature horse activities

  • Horsemanship sessions including grooming, bathing, leading and feeding our horses

  • Petting zoo animals: visiting and learning about the barn animals (goats, sheep, mini donkeys, ducks and more)

  • Games: participants will play games, such as setting up their own obstacle course that they will be able to run around and “jump” over

  • Arts & Crafts,  Music

  • Horse Science is incorporated into horsemanship sessions

  • Farm Fit/Field Games will introduce participants to the challenges of farm work as exercise (eg. carry a bail of hay as a team challenge, relay races, and more) 

  • Snack time-varies. Bag lunch each day from 1:00-1:30 in the air conditioned office or at the shaded picnic benches. 

What to Bring

  • Participants bring their own lunch and snack each day, please use ice packs if needed. And lots of water! It’s hot out there and we are outside all day.

  • Riders are expected to arrive wearing long pants in the morning for riding and bring shorts to change into.

  • Closed toe shoes such as boots or sneakers.

  • Bottled water and sunscreen should be packed 

  • Those wanting to participate in water activities, sprinklers, should bring proper swimming attire, a towel and water shoes, no flip flops!

 Volunteers are needed!  

We’re looking for responsible and enthusiastic volunteers to work as a general helper or program buddy for our participants with varied abilities.
